“By serving and worshiping My devotees, that gives Me more pleasure than worshiping Me directly”
(Krishna in the Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.19.21).
Putting Krishna at the center of our lives doesn’t mean imagining His pleasure by our own standards.
Krishna declares, mad-bhakta-pūjābhyadhikā – “By serving and worshiping My devotees,
I derive more pleasure than by direct worship.”
True devotion (bhakti) flows through love and respect for fellow seekers. Spiritual life is not just
about our personal relationship with God. It is also about how we treat others.
The Bhakti tradition describes three stages of spiritual growth.
- Kaniṣṭha bhakta (beginner) sees Krishna in the temple and follows basic regulations to surrender.
- Madhyama bhakta (intermediate) not only honours Krishna in the temple, but honors and serves His devotees – uplifting others and avoids being dragged down by people with materialistic conditions.
- Uttama bhakta (advanced) sees Krishna in the heart of every living being.
Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu taught the essence of real spiritual maturity:
to be a servant of the servant. That is Krishna’s desire.
To place Krishna first is to serve His devotees wholeheartedly.
As we cultivate this spirit, our taste for chanting the holy names deepens.
