The perfection of our interaction with this world is not to use people, possessions, or opportunities for selfish enjoyment or false ego.
Real renunciation means to engage our intelligence, abilities, wealth, influence, and resources in the service of Krishna, with humility and gratitude.
In the Fifth Chapter of Bhagavad-gita, Srila Prabhupada described one verse as “the peace formula”:
bhoktāraṁ yajña-tapasāṁ
sarva-loka-maheśvaram
suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānāṁ
jñātvā māṁ śāntim ṛcchati
[Bhagavad Gita 5.29]
“One who understands Me as the ultimate enjoyer of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods, and the well-wishing friend of every living being attains peace.”
True peace comes when we recognize that Krishna is the source and proprietor of everything, and that everything is ultimately meant for His pleasure.
Life in this world will always move through changing seasons. Sometimes there is prosperity, and sometimes there is tragedy. Birth, old age, disease, and death are inevitable within material existence. Yet through every circumstance, Krishna remains our eternal well-wishing friend forever.
īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ
hṛd-deśe ’rjuna tiṣṭhati
[Bhagavad Gita 18.61]
Krishna resides within the heart of every living being.
Sri Krishna, along with Srimati Radharani, are personally present within the heart. When we develop faith in this truth, our entire way of living begins to change.
Krishna sees everything.
He witnesses our actions, our intentions, our prayers, our struggles, and our attempts to grow. He is within me, and also within everything, within the hearts of everyone around us. Krishna is seeing us from every perspective everywhere.
This understanding transforms how we treat others. The term Vaiṣṇava seva means recognizing that Krishna deeply loves those who are trying to serve Him. How we speak to others, how we behave toward others, how we honor and encourage one another – Krishna is personally witnessing all of it from within their hearts.
And still, despite all our shortcomings, Krishna never rejects us.
We may forget Krishna for countless lifetimes, but Krishna never abandons us. He patiently remains beside us as our loving well-wishing friend, simply waiting for us to turn toward Him.
This is how we make spiritual advancement – by pleasing Krishna.
